Today’s pattern release
The sugar maple pattern is finally here! This is the fifth and final pattern I’ll be releasing. If you’ve been following along for the past few years you’ll know that I have always avoided doing patterns. They are a lot of work! But I decided to dedicate a few months to creating these five tree patterns, and I’m so glad I did! Will I make more patterns in the future? Probably! When, you ask? I have no idea! I wish I were better at planning these sorts of things, but so much of my life is planned structured that I have to find freedom somewhere, and I find that freedom by allowing myself to not plan too far ahead in my studio work.
A little about this sugar maple pattern: I love the way that this tree gives you the opportunity to layer color upon color adding depth and beauty to it’s foliage. In this pattern, I walk you through everything you need to know to create this maple: from basic stitches, to the trunk, to the delicate leaves, and all the way to how to back your hoop. I can’t wait to share in the joy of stitching this little piece of fall foliage with you.
Also! I now have bundles of patterns available so you can buy all three evergreen patterns (sequoia, ponderosa pine, and douglas fir) or both fall deciduous tree patterns (quaking aspen and sugar maple) in one set. You can check all of this out with the link below <3
Hoop release coming soon!
On November 11, I will be releasing a limited series of new tree hoop originals. They will range from $60-$190. All of them will be available in my Etsy shop, but if you see one (either in this post or in my notes) that you want to claim before you are always welcome to send me a message! I love releasing these in time for the holidays because they make the best gifts.
What about the field?
Yes, what about the field?! You might remember that I’m observing a field over the course of a year to see how it changes through the seasons and making a body of work for each season.
I’ve been so preoccupied with tree patterns, tree hoops, and book edits I haven’t had time to get out into the field and observe it in the past month. I do drive by it every week, and I have to tell you I’m a little worried! The grass doesn’t seem as long as it has been in previous years so there is a real lack of interesting texture going on right now. I’m even considering switching gears and finding another patch of land to observe. Don’t worry! I’m really going to try and stick with this field, but one thing I’ve learned as an artist (and a human) is that if something isn’t working it’s better to switch gears sooner rather than later. So… stay tuned. And cross your fingers for some interesting textures to show up!
so pretty!
